Dear Senior,

As we are approaching the end of October, it is very important that you are actively working on your college applications or other post-secondary plans. For those students interested in applying to college, please review the following to help you better navigate the process.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:

____October 23rd – Log in to your Naviance account (succeed.naviance.com)

____October 26th – Create your CUNY, SUNY, and Common App accounts

____October 31st – Complete your CUNY application (*$65 fee required)

____October 31st – Link your Naviance account to your common app account

____November 20th – Complete your SUNY applications ($50 per school/fee waiver)

____November 20th – Last day to request letters of recommendation

____December 18th – Complete your Common Application (fees varies)

____December 18th – Complete SUNY supplemental

____December 18th – – Last day to request transcripts for all colleges

CUNY application process:

Pre application:

  • Complete CUNY worksheet
  • Make sure you have your OSIS, Social Security Number, and Permanent Residency registration number (if applicable.)
  • Select 6 colleges that you would like to attend (students who haven’t taken the SAT, or who don’t have the 75 on the ELA regents, and an 80 on a Math regents should focus on community colleges.)

Applying:

  • Create an account on the CUNY portal at cuny.edu
  • Select applicant as your role
  • Be sure to write down the user name and password that you create
  • Make sure that you select Fall 2016 as the semester that you are applying to
  • Using your CUNY worksheet answer all the questions
  • When selecting your high school, type WESTCHESTER and then do a high school look up, the school will pop up
  • If you know your income exceeds the requirements for SEEK, you can skip the family financial information
  • Submit payment either via credit card/debit card online or mail in a check/money order
  • Be sure to print your confirmation page (2 copies, one for you and one for the school.)

Post-application:

  • Submit your SAT scores via College Board. Send it to the CUNY UAPC (code 2950)
  • If you apply to a four-year college you MUST submit SAT scores or they will not review your
  • application
  • To check your application status log-in to the portal or call (212) 997-CUNY

SUNY Application Process

  • Determine if you are eligible for EOP

Applying:

  • Create an account at SUNY portal at suny.edu
  • Be sure to write down the user name and password that you create
  • Make sure that you select Fall 2016 as the semester that you are applying to
  • Using your SUNY worksheet, answer all the questions
  • If you know your income qualifies you or EOP, make sure you answer that check the box that says you are applying for EOP
  • Students should NOT apply early action without speaking to Ms. Henry Wilson
  • Submit payment either via credit card/debit card online or mail in a check/money order
  • Be sure to print your confirmation page (2 copies, one for you and one for the school.)
  • Students should apply to SUNY community colleges through the individual colleges website and not the SUNY portal.

Post application:

  • Students MUST email teachers and cc Ms. Henry Wilson, requesting a letter of recommendation that is specific to SUNY schools (teachers will have to email Ms. Henry Wilson the letter to upload to SUNY portal.) * Students not applying to a four-year SUNY can skip this step
  • Students must submit their SAT scores via College Board to each SUNY school that they applied to. If students have exhausted all the College Board fee waivers to send for free, students must call the individual campus to see if they will accept the fee waiver from their high school.
  • Students requesting a fee waiver must submit the fee waiver request form to Ms. Henry Wilson so that she can fax to the Application Services Center.
  • Students MUST complete their supplemental or EOP applications, including uploading personal statement and short-essay questions to their SUNY account.
  • Students applying to EOP will be REQUIRED to submit financial information. Students must submit these documents in a timely fashion or run the risk of losing their spot in the program.

Common Application and Naviance Application Process:

  • Create a common application account @ http://www.commonapp.org.
  • Complete the entire “Education” section of your Common App Account. (You MUST complete this section to move on to next step).
  • List all colleges you are applying to via the Common Application under “MY COLLEGES” (You do not need to complete the common application at this point, but you MUST list at least one college that you are applying to ON your Common Application- you can add more colleges at a later date).
  • Click on one of the colleges that you have added to your Common Application Account.
  • Click on “FERPA Agreement/Assign Recommenders.”
  • Click on the FERPA Release Authorization hyperlink, read and click that you understand the FERPA agreement, click to authorize your transcripts be sent to your colleges…..****VERY IMPORTANT**** Click: “I waive my right to review all recommendations and supporting documents submitted by me or on my behalf.” (You must waive your rights or we cannot send out your information to colleges).
  • Complete by typing your name in the Signature box and hit Submit.
  • Login to your Naviance account.
  • Select the “COLLEGES” tab and click on “COLLEGES I’M APPLYING TO”
  • Enter the email address that you used to register/log in, to your common app account and click “Match”. (Use an email address that you access frequently and will check in with at least daily.)
  • Under “COLLEGES I’M APPLYING TO”, click on “ADD COLLEGES TO THIS LIST.” Add ONLY colleges that you are applying to (Please list ALL schools- not just your Common App schools). Also indicate the type of applications they are (Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision)

ADDITIONAL TIPS WHEN APPLYING:

  • Westchester Square Academy High School Code is: 331116.
  • When using the Common Application do not print out the Guidance Counselor evaluation portion. Your Counselor has access to this form and will complete and submit it electronically through Naviance.
  • DO NOT REQUEST RECOMMENDERS through Common App! Recommendation letters will be sent through Naviance.
  • When listing your colleges in Naviance under “Colleges I am Applying To” make certain that you list your colleges accurately.
  • If you are applying to the Macaulay Honors Program, please list “Macaulay Honors” and the specific CUNY colleges you are applying to.
