Hello parents, guardians and students of Westchester Square Academy. Yesterday, we learned that preliminary tests results indicate that the cooling towers at the Lehman Campus Building contain trace amounts of Legionella bacteria. It’s important to know that the cooling towers at Lehman, along with all cooling towers in the city, were disinfected this summer and do not pose a risk to people inside the schools. Here are some quick facts:
- Legionnaire (Legionella) Bacteria can’t be spread from person to person
- Small traces were found in our water towers, not in our school.
- The water towers on our campus are isolated water sources (not for drinking or cooking with) and have been cleaned.
- Overall: We’re open today because it has been deemed safe!
